THE TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE NEWS, OR TRUMPIAN NATIONAL POLICY
COMPILATION AND COMMENTARY

I WONDER IF THE PRESIDENT REALLY THINKS THIS IS A GOOD IDEA. OR MAYBE HE JUST THINKS MAKING PEOPLE JUMP UP AND DOWN WITH THE STRINGS HE HAS ON THEIR HANDS AND FEET IS THE GREATEST FUN. I BELIEVE THAT IS PROBABLY THE SITUATION. IT’S TIME TO MAKE THE BIG MOVE, CONGRESS. DO YOU HAVE THE INTESTINAL FORTITUDE?

LOOK AT HOW ORDINARY PEOPLE ARE STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE TO HANDLE IT. THAT CAN’T WORK FOREVER, THOUGH. CONGRESS AND SENATE, YOU NEED TO CALL AN EMERGENCY MEETING OF BOTH HOUSES, BECAUSE THIS PERSON/PRESIDENT WON’T DO IT; JUST DECLARE GOVERNMENT OPEN; PAY THE GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES, AND THEN DRAW UP ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT. IF NECESSARY, GET THE MILITARY TO HELP MAKE THE ARREST. THIS MAY NOT BE EXACTLY HOW IT WOULD WORK, BUT WHATEVER THE PROTOCOL IS, DO IT.

Rachel Maddow Reveals Donald Trump’s ‘Genius Move’ To Put FBI Out Of Business
The MSNBC host called it “one neat trick.”

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow suggested Monday night how President Donald Trump was with “one genius move” attempting to put the FBI “out of business.”

And it’s all to do with the ongoing partial government shutdown, which Trump triggered in December over his demands for money to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Maddow noted how FBI workers were routinely subjected to financial background checks throughout their careers to determine whether criminals could gain leverage over them.

“Given that reality, one easy peasy way to screw up” the FBI, federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies would be to “start taking away paychecks from all of those people all at once,” she suggested — which is what is happening during the shutdown, the longest in U.S. history.

“With that one genius move, you can break the family finances of basically every single federal law enforcement and national security agent in the country,” Maddow explained, later adding: “In one fell swoop with just this one neat trick, you screw up all of their careers. You can create security clearance problems for all of them, all at once, by putting them all under financial strain.”

In doing so, Maddow also suggested it would make the FBI and other agencies “seem like super risky, demoralizing places to work” and make it harder for them “from here to eternity” to recruit the best talent.

Chef and restaurateur José Andrés announced this weekend that his nonprofit’s #ChefsForFeds initiative will soon expand from the emergency kitchen that began feeding furloughed federal employees in downtown D.C. last week to a nationwide initiative meant to support more of the 800,000 people going without a paycheck during the partial government shutdown.

“We believe this is a national food emergency,” Andrés says in a video posted to Twitter on Saturday.

According to a Washington Post analysis, nearly a quarter of affected workers are based in D.C., Maryland, or Virginia. There are affected federal employees in all 50 states, with large swaths in Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico, South Dakota, West Virginia, and Idaho.

Andrés nonprofit, World Central Kitchen, put a volunteer form on its website looking for restaurants, food trucks, nonprofits, and businesses interested in serving federal workers in their communities.

The first #ChefsForFeds kitchen opened at the ThinkFoodLab at 701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW last Wednesday. World Central Kitchen announced it had served 4,400 meals in the first day. The Hill reported that 5,500 meals were served on Thursday, followed by 6,488 on Friday.

World Central Kitchen announced Monday that, starting today, it is also supplying a resource center for furloughed federal employees, working with several corporate partners to provide items such as groceries, diapers, and pet food.

@WCKitchen
The financial pressure of the shutdown on furloughed feds extends far beyond food, so we teamed up with a group of partners to launch the #ChefsForFeds Resource Center, to deliver vital services from 9 - 5 every day – right next door to our @NavyMemorial kitchen.

In his video this weekend, Andrés references another group that could soon need assistance: people relying on food stamps to feed their families.

The United States Department of Agriculture announced this month that the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will be fully funded for February. But, according to an AP report, the USDA won’t be able to cover the full cost of the program, which serves about 40 million Americans, if the shutdown extends into March. The USDA says there has never been a lapse in food stamp benefits since the permanent program was started in 1964.

Tuesday marked the record-extending 32nd day of the partial government shutdown spurred on by President Donald Trump’s demand for more than $5 billion in funding to build a southern border wall.

Andrés ends his announcement video with a direct appeal to the White House: “This is our action to make sure no one will go hungry, President Trump. What are you doing about it?”
