CREDITABLE READER COMMENTS ON THE CHURCH MASSACRE IN TEXAS

THERE ARE SCORES OF SCORES OF THESE COMMENTS. IT’S THE KIND OF STORY THAT REALLY SMACKS YOU IN THE FACE, WHATEVER YOUR PERSONAL VIEWS. IT’S A LOT LIKE THE 9:00 AM NEWS BROADCAST ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2001. I WAS IN MY BEDROOM WHEN MY MOTHER CALLED IN A HORRIFIED TONE OF VOICE, “LUCY, COME IN HERE AND LOOK AT THIS. THERE’S A HORRIBLE SHOW ON TV.” IT’S A LITTLE LIKE TRUMP DECLARING WAR ON A NUCLEAR ARMED ROGUE STATE LIKE NORTH KOREA (NOT QUITE THAT BAD.) DESPITE ALL THAT, HOWEVER, I’M ALMOST CERTAIN THAT THE NRA WILL GO ON IT’S MERRY WAY SHOUTING ABOUT JACKBOOTED THUGS, AND THE RESIDENTS OF SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, TX WILL BURY THEIR DEAD.

THIS NEWS ARTICLE IS MUCH LIKE ALL THE OTHERS, BUT THIS IS WHERE THE MANY, MANY IMPASSIONED, PAINED COMMENTS THAT I FOUND ARE ATTACHED. GO TO THE WEBSITE AND READ AS MANY AS YOU WISH. THIS BLOG IS MY WAY OF ATTENDING AN INTERNET FUNERAL. I UNDERSTAND WELLS FARGO BANK HAS SET UP AN ACCOUNT FOR GIVING MONEY TO AID THE FAMILIES VIA THE INTERNET. MAY OUR COUNTRY AND THE WORLD TAKE A TURN FOR THE BETTER SOON. AMEN.

Please everyone, please let us have one day without calling each other Libtards, Trumpanzees, Racists, gun nuts, democraps, etc. Can we take today to come together as human beings and just mourn the deaths of innocent people?

Next time I am out in public, I am going to try and be a little nicer to other people. If a lady cuts me off by mistake, a simple wave and move along. Guy is short a few cents in front of me at the liquor store, happy to chip in. Perhaps putting a little effort into being nice might in some way make this world a better place.

I always wondered why someone would need an extended or extra capacity magazine. After reading how he had to switch out magazines three or four times while killing 26 people, now I know what they are made for.

Everyone keeps asking, what happened to their country. Why do we have so many senseless killings? We have gone from a traditional country to a secular society where politically correct thought dominates, especially in the mass media. It is quite clear that the founders based our justice system on Judeo-Christian tenets, which is why a sculpture of Moses holding the Ten Commandments adorns the Supreme Court building. But today you could never put Moses and the Commandments on a public wall anywhere, the secular progressives would scream. Enter Jesus, the most famous individual being who has ever lived. If you're a child attending a public school and living in a secular home, chances are you know little or nothing about Jesus because the schools are frightened to mention his name. There's a big difference between philosophy and religion, and Jesus was a PHILOSOPHER on this Earth. Some believed he was the messiah, others did not, but his message of brotherhood was philosophical. Don't you think American kids should know the philosophy behind our justice system? No, secular progressives have wiped that out. Here's the bigger picture: When you have a secular progressive society, behavior changes. Fewer judgments are made, more lenient criminal sentences handed out, abortion and drug use become more acceptable. With a progressive president and a very left-leaning Democratic Party, you have an acceleration of secularism. The outcome is likely to be a much weaker nation with less discipline, less motivation, and less generosity because the secular religion preaches that it's all about 'me.'

The problem with the fundamentalist form of religion, and that is what at least 50% of churchgoing Americans profess, is that the PHILOSOPHY OF JESUS has been driven out the back door of the church, and the DOGMA AND MAGICAL THINKING is ushered in. Most harmful, though, is the fact that religious people tend to be TRIBALISTIC about it, and a my gang, your gang mentality takes over. Jews, Islamic believers, and the more Hardcore Christians take over wherever they happen to be in the majority in the population. What do we have? A totally toxic social atmosphere in which whoever happens to have fewer fighters on his side may well end up in a concentration camp. The reason why SECULAR society is better is that nobody will be forced to profess something that they don't believe. All secular government does is KEEP RELIGION OUT OF POLITICAL DECISIONS. People actually can't "come to believe" something that sounds downright impossible, and in a secular goverment we don't have to. in addition, we have the freedom to worship wherever we are happier. If I'm Jewish I can go to a synagogue without being beaten up by a mob of "sincere" believers in something else. Their sincerity does not give them a right among reasonable people to abuse others for any reason, and doing it in the name of Christianity is no better than any other group. If we use our "groupthink" tendencies to make society more peaceful and INCLUSIVE RATHER THAN EXCLUSIVE, ON THE OTHER HAND, THEN IT IS DOING WHAT IT SHOULD BE DOING. KNEEJERK HATRED of people who are different is not a good thing at all, and I don't for a minute believer that -- if there is an afterlife -- that the God that Jesus spoke about will send us to hell, not for following vicious and callous viewpoints but for simply believe one story over another. . If we are aided most spiritually by a Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, Islamic, or even Agnostic belief, then we should do that. It is the inner mind that matters. Jesus said that. Most people are not actually atheist, but agnostic. They simply say to the world, "I don't KNOW, and what you are describing sounds impossible to me. My belief in Jesus is "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." When gun nuts go on the rampage like this, however, it is 90% insanity and 10% philosophy. People like that aren't capable of understanding a "philosophy" as I use the word. Unfortunately the murder itself is EVIL. As Jesus said, "Hate the sin, but LOVE the sinner." In this society, we just need more education, less interpersonal cruelty, more mental health resources, more gentleness in the way we bring up our children, and the encouragement in school and church and everywhere of CONTEMPLATION over any form of FANATICISM. It isn't that I disagree exactly with what you said, but I do disagree with a closed-minded approach to it. Humans are capable of so much more than that, and the God of my understanding wants us to follow our mental abilities in that direction. My secular religion doesn't tell me that "it's all about me," but that "it's all about us -- all of us."

Stop being a hypocrite by using mental illness or religion excuses for mass killing murderers. They are all terrorists.

There is a new dogma, especially in our public schools, but it's a secular humanist dogma. Global warming and redefining marriage are the new dogmas, and most of the educrats have that world view. I wouldn't want a lot of these people to teach a Christian history because a lot of the biases against Christianity would make their way into the teaching. In the minds of the secular humanists, Jesus is about old-fashioned judgment, and they don't want to be judged!" This is what happens when you take God out of people's lives, schools, institutions and replace him with politically expedient special interests. The God inspired people have created this nation, and now they are being persecuted.

All of the gun laws in the country won't stop mental illness, whether that illness leads to terrorism or any other type of motivated violence. They won't stop people from being horrible. They won't stop this sickness we have in this country, where people are increasingly angry and violent. We have a culture problem that needs to be fixed, and fixed now. It starts with the media and their propensity to perpetuate tension and cultivate aggression. They stoke the fires of people's emotion and they force the hand of deranged people. Next it is our politicians. Rarely do any of us actually feel like they are working for us. They do not represent us. They do their best to pass what legislation fits their own agenda, and to hell with the common folk. Next is social media. It provides an avenue for angry and deranged people to build their own confidence as they lash out and act out to others who speak their minds on it. They use it to congregate with other like minded individuals, and a pack mentality is created in which the deranged individual gains the support to build up the cowardice disguised as courage to set these horrible plans in motion. And lastly it's us as a people. You can't read an articles comment section online and not see slanders from Rs and Ds. You guys politicize everything. You fight like cats and dogs over a letter next to your name, and you fail to remember that we are all humans fighting to be happy. We easily lose sight of what's important as we push our agendas online, screaming that we and we alone know what's best for not only ourselves, but everyone else as well. We attack anyone that thinks differently, and above all, we have victimized ourselves into believing that everyone else is an attacker. We have boarded up the windows to our soul and shunned anyone who spends a second engaging us for fear of attack. We believe this will somehow damage our newly found empowerment. We use social media to fool us into believing our voice matters on EVERY SINGLE ISSUE, when the truth is far from that. We believe that any other ideology that is proposed to us, any other angle of perspective is an attack on our own empowerment. Civil discourse has taken a basckseat to a "my way or the highway" selfish egotistical mentality. I, for one, am sick over it. And I pray to a God whose existence doesnt require that you believe in HIM that he find a way to open up the hearts of people and change the self destructive path we are on, because it is simply unsustainable.

Following are FACTS due to guns: 1. On average, 31 Americans are murdered with guns every day and 151 are treated for a gun assault in an emergency room. 2. Every day on average, 55 people kill themselves with a firearm, and 46 people are shot or killed in an accident with a gun. 3. A gun in the home is 22 times more likely to be used to kill or injure in a domestic homicide, suicide, or unintentional shooting than to be used in self-defense. 4. The U.S. firearm homicide rate is 20 times higher than the combined rates of 22 countries that are our peers in wealth and population. 5. An average of seven children and teens under the age of 20 are killed by guns every day. 6. American children die by guns 11 times as often as children in other high-income countries.

to the older people out there.... remember 40-50 years ago? when kids could go out and play and we didn't have to worry about them? they could go to school and were safe? you could leave your doors unlocked? well back then, we had dems and repubs. we did not agree on everything but could meet in the middle and move on. WHAT HAS CHANGED? we now have people that call their self liberals, they will not meet in the middle. it has to be their way of they call for violence, block roads, burn buildings and teach people to HATE anyone that does not see it their way. putting hate in peoples hearts and minds. offended by everything wanting to change our culture our values attacking everything. .. that is what has changed.

We were all designed with the capacity to make our own choices, and thereby live with the consequences. You can't have free will if God jumps in to wave a magic wand and stop us every time we do something wrong. And, he never said anything about doing so. We just think he should just because he can. But, he did promise this life was not the end, but only the beginning. 100 years of life on Earth is like a grain of sand compared to eternity being the entire beach. Just by being born you won the lottery the day you were born. Our minds are only finite and tiny but someday we will see a day where and how the pain and broken hearts of tragedy are fully restored, clothed in peace and joy forever.

Saying "I blame the media" is a lot like saying "I blame INFORMATION. Information is not evil, but what cynical and cruel people do with it too often is. Besides, the God of my understanding gave me a logical brain so that I can sift out "the chaff from the wheat." Information and communication are good. It's mental laziness that is the problem. That's my view, anyway. The Internet is not evil, but it does contain communications by those who have chosen to grow in the direction of evil. We each choose our direction. I choose good, to whatever degree I can discern what it is. Remember the Serenity Prayer: God grant me the serenity to accept the things that I cannot change, the courage to change the things that I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

As a society, the USA is lost and is never coming back. In fact, the Leave it to Beaver fantasy world of the 1950's probably never existed. Also, if the murder of 20+ children by gunfire didn't change the minds of death worshipping Americans, nothing ever will. Our society is permanently divided down the middle and is beyond redemption.

He had a beef with ex-wife's grandmother who was at the church. So at least we have motive. I support the 2nd amendment, but clearer and less biased minds must finally prevail. Banning guns will not fly under our constitution, it may change someday, but not today. Guns like abortion are the law of the land. But ASSAULT RIFLES that are semi and can also be made fully automatic need to go. It was the SPEED AND EFFICIENCY of the lethal round firing rate that caused the death rates to be so high in these shooting of late. We banned these weapons before with no problem and then let the law lapse. We need to bring that back.

Don, everything you say here is correct, well-balanced, honest and fair. I wouldn't "ban guns," for hunting or legitimate self-protection situations, but the whole disgusting family of automatic/semi weapons should be totally banned in any civililzed country. Their true use is mass murder. We need to get honest about it and stop allowing Congress to subsidize and protect the NRA. Oh yeah, I forgot that the NRA is the boss, and Congress are the slaves.

NOW THE OTHER SHOES WILL BE DROPPING. I HAVE YET TO FIND AND COLLECT THESE TWO STORIES: FIRST, THE FACT THAT THE AIR FORCE DIDN’T REPORT HIS COURT MARTIAL AND THE CHARGES AGAINST HIM, SO THAT HE WOULD HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET A WEAPON. WHY? TIME FOR ANOTHER CONGRESSIONAL INVESTIGATION. SECOND, THEY ALLOWED HIM TO PLEAD GUILTY IN EXCHANGE FOR A LIGHTER SENTENCE, AND HAVING A NUMBER OF THE ORIGINAL CHARGES DROPPED AND EXPUNGED. THAT'S WHAT I GOT FROM A VIDEO REPORT A FEW MINUTES AGO. I'LL LOOK IT UP TO VERIFY THE FACTS.
